“Genesis”: the latest great exhibit by Sebastião Salgado

From the 18th October 2017 to the 28th January 2018 the PAN (Palazzo delle Arti) in Naples will host the extraordinary exhibition “Genesis” by the Brazilian documentary photographer Sebastião Salgado.

The project is an enchanting journey within the rare beauty of our planet, a valuable resource and heritage to contemplate and preserve: with more than 200 B/W photos, the artist emphasizes the need to change our behaviours in order to adopt a new and more respectful attitude towards our world to protect it and save it.

The exhibition is the result of Salgado’s eight year trip to the most remote places on Earth from the Amazonian, Indonesian, New Guinean and Congolese tropical forests to the Antarctica glaciers, the Alaskan taiga, the American and African deserts up to the American, Chilean and Siberian mountains.

Divided into five sections, “Genesis” captures the beauty and the wilderness of distant places where Salgado took his extraordinary pictures with a particular focus on Planet South, Sanctuaries, Africa, Northern Spaces, Amazonia, and Pantanal. The exhibition path introduce to the public breath-taking landscapes and amazing animals immortalised in a world where nature and living beings coexist in harmony with the planet and the environment but also indigenous peoples who have not met Western civilization yet, such as the Yanomani and Kayapó in Brazil or the Pigmies in the equatorial forests in Congo.

Curated by Lélia Wanick Salgado, the exhibition has successfully toured the world and was met with great public approval in every country thanks to its powerful message: it represents an extraordinary anthropological atlas of our valuable planet and a warning for all people to try to preserve the few pure areas left by stopping this terrible trend of destruction.
