The Rome Of Kings: A Journey In The Ancient Rome
How was life in the Rome of kings, when neither the Senate nor the Empire existed?
The answer may lie in the new exhibition that is taking place in Rome at the Capitoline Museums within the rooms of Palazzo Cafarelli and in the area of the Temple of Jupiter until the 27th of January 2019. “The Rome of the kings. The story of Archaeology” it will be indeed the first of a series of temporary exhibits whose aim is to allow visitors to learn about the most ancient phase in the history of Rome. The exhibition will cast a light on the development of roman society, on the interaction with other communities, on the city’s formation, its customs, ideologies, technical skills and on all the social and cultural transformations that affected Rome during the period in which the city was ruled by kings.
The exhibitions path, as said, covers a period of time that starts from the 6th century BC and goes back to the 10th century BC and will be thus divided into different sections:
1) SANCTUARIES AND ROYAL PALACES, with findings from the sacred area of Sant’Omobono in the Boario Forum along the ancient landing of Tiber River ;
2) THE SEPULCHRAL RITES IN ROME between 1000 and 500 BC, where there will be displayed grave goods from the area later occupied by the Forums of Caesar and Augustus and by the Roman Forum itself;
3) THE ANCIENT SETTLEMENT: THE FIRST ROME, with a scale model of Archaic Rome for a journey through time from today’s Rome tof its origins;
4) EXCHANGES AND TRADES BETWEEN THE BRONZE AGE AND THE ORIENTALIZING AGE, with finds mostly coming from the necropolis of the Esquiline, one of the most important complexes of the Ancient Rome;
4) FEMININE AND MASCULINE ROLE, OBJECTS OF LUXURY AND PRESTIGE, AND “CONFUSED” FUNERARY GOODS, with objects mostly coming from the Esquiline necropolis too.
“The Rome of kings. The story of Archaeology” promoted by Roma Capitale, with the support of Sapienza University of Rome, the University of Calabria and University of Michigan, represents undoubtedly an incredible journey through time that should not be missed!
